The Milford Police Department instituted a motorcycle patrol in 1996. The unit was started with a 1996 Harley Davidson Road King. The primary function of the unit was to address traffic problems on residential streets. The unit soon became an instrumental part of traffic enforcement city-wide. The Milford Police maintains two motorcycles for use on patrol and selective enforcement functions.

Officers assigned to the Unit compete for the position of Motorcycle Officer. If selected they are given training in operation of both motorcycles.
