The Special Operations Group (SOG) is comprised of 10 officers whom are specially trained in tactical operations. The members are made up of volunteers from the sworn officers of the department. The officers must meet various minimum requirements, and receive a confidence vote from other SOG members before being selected.
The SOG has received training in Hostage Rescue, Anti-Terrorist Tactics, and High Risk Warrant Service, and Response to Active Shootings. The Team as a whole is a member of the National Tactical Officers Association (www.ntoa.org).
The team trains regulary utilizing realistic scenarios in various locations. Once the members are briefed on a scenario, they must develop an operations plan, and then complete their mission. These training scenarios prepare the members for the missions they encounter during "real-life" situations such as barricaded persons, narcotic raids, and high risk warrant service.
The members are on-call 24 hours a day, and are frequently called upon to assist with the arrest of voilent offenders, entering and securing locations where narcotics are being stored, sold, or consumed, or any service where the suspect is reasonable believed to be armed and/or dangerous. To date, the SOG has assisted many local jurisdictions with tactical operations. The SOG has served the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration with the service of warrants in the past as well. |
