[ARCHIVED] Milford-Slaughter Beach Shared Use Path Feasibility Study Kick-Off

Update 11/22/24: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Study Team will not be holding a pop-up at the Milford Thanksgiving Market on 11/23. The pop-up will be rescheduled to another date and location.

The City of Milford and Town of Slaughter Beach are partnering with the Dover/Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization and Delaware Department of Transportation to kick-off the Milford-Slaughter Beach Shared Use Path Feasibility StudySlaughter Beach Mayor Bob Wood shares, “We are excited to work with the City of Milford on this feasibility study to link our towns and provide safer passage for pedestrians, those who are handicapped, and cyclists.” 

WHAT:

The Milford-Slaughter Beach Shared Use Path Feasibility Study will assess the feasibility and develop a conceptual design for a shared-use path that connects the City of Milford with the Town of Slaughter Beach. A shared use path will provide people walking, biking, and rolling with a new transportation connection and a regional recreational amenity that will encourage ecotourism in the area.

This study is being funded by a U.S. DOT Thriving Communities Grant that the City of Milford and Town of Slaughter Beach won with support from the UD Institute of Public Administration Grant Assistance Program. Dover Kent County MPO is administering the grant funds on behalf of Milford and Slaughter Beach. The grant requires substantial work be complete by June 2, 2025. 

WHERE/WHEN:

The study team is conducting a series of pop-up events to share details about the study, develop an understanding of the community’s needs, and collect feedback. You’re invited to attend one of the below events to meet members of the project team:

·         Tuesday, November 19, 4pm-6pm – Gigante International Market (209 NE Front Street, Milford, DE 19963)

·         Tuesday, November 19, 6pm-8pm – Memorial Fire Company, Station 89, Slaughter Beach (359 Bay Ave, Milford, DE 19963)

·         Saturday, November 23, 9am-1pm – Milford Thanksgiving Market, Milford Riverwalk (103 S Washington Street, Milford, DE 19963)

·         Thursday, December 5, 11am-1pm – Redner’s Markets, (28253 Lexus Drive, Milford, DE 19963)
