[ARCHIVED] Weekend Winter Storm Safety Practices

IMG_1020

This weekend’s winter storm is expected to bring snow, ice, and strong winds, which may cause power outages.

Please follow these critical safety tips:

✅ Report Outages Quickly – Please call the main City Line at 302-422-6616.

✅ Stay Clear of Downed Power Lines – Assume all lines are live and dangerous.

✅ Generator Safety – Protect Yourself AND Our Linemen

-Never run generators indoors or in garages – risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

-Place generators outside, at least 20 feet from doors and windows.

-Do NOT connect generators directly to home wiring unless you have a transfer switch installed by a licensed electrician.

-Backfeeding through a wall outlet is extremely dangerous – it can energize power lines and put linemen at risk of electrocution.

-Use heavy-duty, outdoor-rated extension cords for appliances.

-Keep generators dry and protected from snow/ice to prevent electrical hazards.

Your safety – and the safety of our crews – depends on following these guidelines.
