PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Milford hires Swain as Economic Development & Community Engagement Administrator

The City of Milford recently hired 2007 Milford High School graduate, Lauren Swain, for the Economic Development & Community Engagement Administrator position.  In this role, Swain is responsible for planning, directing, and administering comprehensive economic development and business assistance programs for the City. She will also work closely with the business community/civic organizations and serves as the City’s designated Public Information Officer.

"Lauren brings extensive experience within the Milford business community, and her previous work helping business owners in Southern Delaware demonstrates her dedication to fostering economic growth in the region," said City Manager Mark Whitfield. "A key aspect of her role will be to promote the City's potential for business opportunities and to tell the story of the town. Her background in advocating for entrepreneurs and being a native to Milford will greatly benefit the City, and we are thrilled to have her join the team.”

Swain joins the City after almost five years with the Division of Small Business as the Sussex County Regional Business Manager, where she supported owners with starting and growing their businesses, streamlined regulatory processes for establishments by acting as the liaison between the small business and all levels of government, assisted entrepreneurs with applying for grants and other funding opportunities, and connected business owners with partner resources to aide in the growth of their operations. Prior to Swain’s time with the Division, she was a legislative assistant at the Delaware State Senate.

“I’m excited to be working for the City in this role and commend City Council for their emphasis on how important this position is for the future of Milford,” Swain said.  “I am deeply committed to the success of the City and fully recognize the significant opportunities this position can offer to Milford, its business sector, and the wider community.”

Swain holds a bachelor's degree in business management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) both from Wilmington University. Swain resides in Bridgeville with her husband, daughter, and two fur babies. She enjoys spending time with her family, shopping local, and the outdoors.

The media and community are encouraged to contact Swain at lswain@milford-de.gov, 302-725-2068, or through the City’s social media (Facebook, Instagram and NextDoor).
